Millions of pre-teen girls have found a new playmate. Mattel’s Dora the Explorer™ has grown up into a cute, fashionable young lady. Mattel and Nickelodeon have teamed up to create and market a new line of Dora Links™ dolls and accessories.

The Dora Links™ doll is a new kind of toy meant for girls ages five to ten. Dora Links™ is a fashion doll that merges online activities with actual play to stretch little girls’ imaginations with pretend play.
Dora Grows Up With Her Loyal Nickelodeon Fan Base
According to Mattel, Dora the Explorer™ is the number one pre-school show on commercial television. Accordingly, Mattel hopes to convert millions of pre-school age Dora the Explorer™ fans into followers of the Dora Explorer Girls™.
In a February 13, 2009 press release, Gina Sirard, Mattel’s Vice President of Marketing, clearly explained Mattel’s intentions behind the Dora Links™ fashion doll. Sirard noted, “Girls really identify with Dora and we knew that girls would love to have their friend Dora grow up with them, and experience the new things that they were going through themselves. The brand captures girls’ existing love of Dora and marries it with the fashion doll play and online experiences older girls enjoy.”

Dora Links™ isn’t the only fashion doll in Mattel's new collection. Dora Links™ shares adventures with her four best friends, Alana, Emma, Kate, and Naiya. According to Mattel, Alana is the athletic one, a talented soccer player who also loves animals. Emma is the musically-inclined Explorer Girl; she plays in the middle school band and enjoys helping younger aspiring musicians discover their musical talents. Kate is a bookworm; she loves reading as well as writing and performing in plays. Naiya is the brainy one; she’s great at math and science and loves to study the stars.
According to Mattel, Dora's Explorer Girls™ will go to school, get involved in the community, help friends, volunteer, and focus on green activities like conserving water and planting trees or flowers.
